US Congress Passes Bill with the Single Largest CCS Infrastructure Investment Ever

10th November 2021

Last Friday, 5 November, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: the same bill that was passed by the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support in August. The bill contains the single largest appropriation of money for CCS in the history of the technology. It will now go to the President’s desk and is expected to be signed into law imminently.

Major provisions for CCS are contained in the bill, including $2.5 billion appropriated for CCS demonstration projects, $1 bn for large-scale CCS pilot projects and $3.5 bn for regional direct air capture (DAC) hubs over the next five years. The bill also contains the SCALE Act in its entirety which will direct nearly $5 bn to support the development and financing of CO2 transport and storage infrastructure and sites.
